Advanced Cruising Skills Seminars: The American Sailing Association has brought together some of its most experienced blue water instructors to conduct specially designed seminars geared toward the offshore environment. These 3 ½ hour, underway sessions will cover essential offshore cruising strategies and give participants the opportunity to learn important advanced skills through hands on exercises. All tactics and skills taught during these sessions are taken directly from ASA’s Bareboat Charter (ASA 104) and Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) programs. Participation is limited to 5 persons per boat.  To get details about the content and schedule and to reserve your space in this unique program, click on the following this link: Click Here 

Plus a Strictly Sail Miami 2012 Exclusive!!  – Introduction to Cruising Catamarans

Participants in this 3 ½ hour under way seminar will experience firsthand the expansive comfort, impressive speed and precise maneuverability of the modern cruising catamaran along with  the unique sailing and handling needs of larger “Cats”. This exclusive, hands on learning program is ideal for newcomers and monohull sailors with little to no experience on multihulls.     

American Sailing Association instructors will cover Cruising Catamaran fundamentals including techniques for tacking and jibing in light air, correct sail trim, steering a compass course, line handling and winch safety, crew overboard recovery, maneuvering in tight spaces under power and much more. All learning elements are taken directly from the ASA Cruising Catamaran certification course (ASA 114).

Space is very limited and advance registration is required. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and capable of performing as an active crew member while underway. One Day Marine Meteorology Weather Course by Lee Chesneau

Lee Chesneau, Senior Marine Meteorologist, formerly with NOAA/NWS's Ocean Prediction Center, and now owner of Lee Chesneau's Marine Weather, will provide a challenging full day weather course as a follow up to his daily hour long seminars.   

Lee's 39 years of forecasting marine weather and strategic route planning on a global, synoptic, and local scale for mariners has been now successfully transferred to the classroom where he takes you step by step toward understanding both the atmospheric environment that you boat in. As a former mariner, Lee knows that this is necessary and important for not only determining your own weather forecasts, but making strategic decisions whether operating with the coastal waters, offshore, or in trans-ocean crossings.
