Introduction to Sailing
Are you new to sailing (or just a little rusty)? Discover for yourself how fun and easy it is to sail. This session covers essential skills every sailor must know, such as how to raise, lower and trim the sails, steering techniques and helmsmanship, how to turn, slow and stop the boat including how to tack and jibe, and more. Performance Sailing Workshop
Learn how to trim the sails for maximizing performance while maintaining control and minimizing stress on the rigging. Reading tell tales, managing draft and sail twist, balancing the helm, steering by the sails and determining the most efficient heel angle and point of sail are all essential skills required for getting the most out of the boat. Introduction to Cruising Catamarans—the Perfect “Charter Starter”
Take the helm to experience firsthand the expansive comfort, impressive speed and precise maneuverability of the modern cruising catamaran along with the unique sailing and handling needs of larger “Cats”. Ideal for newcomers and monohull sailors with little to no experience on multihulls— it's also the perfect way to determine if a cruising catamaran, your own or chartered, is in your future. Anchoring & Mooring
Whether you're dropping the hook in a deserted cove for a quiet lunch or pulling into a crowded anchorage for the week, solid anchoring skills will help minimize your anxiety and assure the safety of your boat (and those around you!). This session covers essential anchoring and mooring techniques including: how to select the right spot, managing "sailing at anchor" and swing arc in a crowded anchorage; dragging anchors, windy conditions and waves including a two anchor deployment, setting up a mooring bridle, maneuvering techniques to pick up a mooring ball, crew communications and more. Docking Under Power & Precision Boat Control
This is an important skill although one that is not often practiced except when departing and returning to the slip. Essential skills covered in this session include: turning around in tight spaces (back and fill), backing down a narrow channel in a straight line, how to handle propwalk, station keeping and managing the boat confidently in windy conditions, coming alongside a pier (fuel dock, docking stern first) and more.
